Usually this place is acceptable even though the service has never been "great". But the service this day was the... worse. After getting seated it took about 10 minutes for someone to even say hello. Once the server came over I gave him the list of appetizers I ended with a request for a cup of chicken tortilla soup. The waiter immediately got defensive and told me that I couldn't order that. I definitely pulled the "But I get it every time card" while smiling and thinking nothing of it. He got even more defensive and told me to calm down😂😂 Sir I don't know how calm you want me to be I didn't yell or have an attitude but I did leave. As expensive as they are it makes 0 sense for the customer service to be this so under par. Please do better Update: by your response it shows the lack of customer service starts at the top. Lets not forget your establishment has a history of treating "certain" members in the community differently. I have no reason to lie about the disgusting treatment by your staff. The only one who would benefit from lying is you. Now go fix the smell of sewage in your restaurant and again do better. Merry Christmasread more

We were seated right away, and the place completely filled soon after. Service was a bit slow as a result, but they... were obviously doing the best they could. Food was great and the portions huge. I took half of my lunch home for the next day. We'll definitely be going back.read more

The food is amazing! Service can be spotty, but overall pretty good. It’s almost never too busy- I live in Norfolk... and usually have to make reservations early in the afternoon on Friday’s to get a seat, but there’s always a table at Jessy’s. After a cold and rainy day on the Field Hockey field, Jessy's provided a welcome respite for our family. It could have... been a warmer inside. We were greeted promptly and with a smile. We sat down immediately. Waters, chips and salsa were on the table within 3 minutes. It would have been nice if the chips were warm or at least a bit more fresh. They were decent enough and hit the spot with the salsas provided. Careful though! You only get the first basket free. Our entrees came out within 15 minutes. They were hot and most welcome on the cold day. All in all a good experience and I would recommend it for low-key dining.read more

The best experience I’ve had since I been back in Norfolk! The waitress was absolutely wonderful and sweet, the... drinks were delicious, the atmosphere was perfect not overbearing and not over crowded. Then the food omg! So eye crossing good, per-portions were well over the price and the flavor was as authentic as I remember in Mexico. We were actually waiting to eat at "Lil bit Nola" but the wait was about an hour so they suggested we get drinks at... Jessys while we waited. We thought this was a great idea since it was super hot outside. We are seated pretty quickly and it's not very busy. We order margaritas and quickly notice we are sweating. Turns out the AC was broken. Ok fine, we can deal with that its just drinks. We finish a round of margaritas when my nephew freaks out and tells me he needs to take my 2 year old to the bathroom to wash his hands because he just touched a MOUSE! We were in a large booth right when you enter to the left. It's old and falling apart and there's a huge gap where your back rests. Photos included for better understanding. The manager first tried to say she would give us a discount and she was super passive about it but after my husband and cousin spoke to her she comped all the drinks. We won't be going back.read more

Jessy's is right up there as one of the best Mexican food restaurants I've been too. Not only is the food delicious but the atmosphere gives a modern trendy Mexican vibe. Went here for dinner with my friends on a weeknight. I wasn't taking part in it, but the happy hour specials for... margaritas was pretty good, and my friends enjoyed them. I had a seafood quesadilla and it was really good! Although a bit soggy from all the filling. The chips and salsa they put on the table are good, however I didn't like that if you wanted a refill on that, you had to pay for it. I've been to a bunch of Mexican restaurants and never been told that. Our waiter was good- he checked in on us often (but not too often) and provided good food suggestions!read more

Kind of a mess. Speedy with the margaritas. Slow to take our dinner order. Very long wait for salsa and chips.... Suddenly, the side of corn I'd ordered, alone. Another long wait, and the entrees finally appeared. We enjoyed our choices of salmon and enchiladas. Can't say much for the extremely slow and disorganized service. Just left came for an early mother's day dinner. Understaffed, service was slow and lost they seemed like they were new... to serving. I counted at least 5-6 employees there was only 5 tables of customers and it took more than 20 mins to get drinks. The orders came out wrong. My food was soaked in soup! My friend order soft tacos and got hard tacos. Could not even grab a waitress to explain. They were busy with not even enough help. We were not pleased with the food at all. Ordered Birria Tacos, Chicken Nachos and Shrimp Burrito. We love Mexican... food, always willing to try different restaurants. Our daughter wanted the Tacos she was so disappointed. No flavor in any of the food. The ambiance is more of a Hip Hop Mexican restaurant. Nothing traditional.read more

Edit Feb 2021: There's no getting around the generally poor service here. Most of the staff just don't care. The... bartender, servers hanging out at the bar, and back of house wear no masks. When you call in they're rude. They got our take-out order wrong and -- far from apologizing -- were very short with my girlfriend. You really gamble when you come here. 4/5 times you have a bad experience. Edit: A great server can make all the difference in the world. Victoria really went above and beyond with awesome service tonight. She was friendly and helpful from start to finish. Give her a raise! Original: Inattentive service is the only real complaint about this otherwise stellar restaurant. The food is sublime; the kitchen is amazing. The ingredients they get to work with aren't always the best (for example the lobster tails are very low quality) but that doesn't stop them from turning out consistently incredible dishes. Everything looks and more importantly tastes wonderful. Their menudo is literally the best I've ever had in my life. Try a cup! The bowl is a more authentic experience and probably not a good choice for squeamish diners. The taste is phenomenal though. We always tip well so I hope that the service improves as we become regulars -- because we're coming back A LOT. 😁read more

I’m not the type to post reviews but I was just so disappointed at this place. Not sure what happened to this... restaurant but, we came in and stood in the front for 10 minutes+ while servers looked at us and kept walking past when it wasn’t even busy. I work customer service myself so this was really unexpected, especially for this establishment. At least have someone check in with people when they walk in. Won’t be returning here for a while.read more

The restaurant has down and upstairs seating. Decor was lovely. There were some issues. There was no toilet seat on... the toilet in the Women's restroom, so I had to use the Men's room. The "hot" water did not work on the faucet, just cold. The food wasn't super great. I've had tons better Mexican food at other restaurants. Plus no "white sauce". They weren't very busy for a rainy Saturday mid-afternoon, but we had a hard time getting consistent service. Their mixed drinks are good. Portions are comparable to price. I wouldn't recommend this place; however, nor go back. Sorry.read more

Went there for lunch today. Literally one other couple at a table in the entire place. A male employee brought me and... my wife water almost immediately, but that was all the service we had for at least ten minutes! When we were walking out, I commented to the server that the place was empty and we hadn’t even been asked for our drink order. She looked at me like she couldn’t have cared less. Even though we usually chose to have a potluck, my coworkers and I here at Sentara in downtown Norfolk decided to make... it a Mexican day, support a local restaurant and order from here for lunch upon a recommendation of one the nurses. Well I guess I should have gotten THAT particular dish, because my antojitos were not AT ALL what I so eagerly anticipated (no cheese, lettuce, pico, sour cream, just meat and a slice of radish). The service is okay, it... seems like they need to hire more people because the servers are basically all over the place. When they actually get to you they’re polite and helpful. The food was good, but the service was not. We walked in on a Friday around 6:45, and they were getting busy, but there... were still open tables. There were three small groups waiting to be seated, but they wouldn’t take our names. It was really odd, they wouldn’t even talk to us until we had a table. I literally stood there for 15 minutes before someone spoke to me. We would have left but we were meeting someone there. Finally someone took my name and I went to the bar to wait for a table and get a drink. We asked what the specials were because it was still happy hour, the bartender said “just the margaritas”, which we didn’t want. After finally getting a table we found out they had $0.99 Coronas for happy hour, but now it was too late. After sitting the service was slow, but not terrible. There’s other Mexican places in town I’d go to before coming back here, but the food was pretty good.read more
